I/O took part in the Muziekgebouw Production House Residency that was commissioned to Thanasis Deligiannis to work in the building from May to October 2024. The residency focused on studying the potential of the venue’s building as a whole, the different ways it hosts events and audiences, taking in account that in 2025 the Muziekgebouw will be celebrating 20 years since its opening in 2005. While exploring the many spaces throughout the building, Thanasis Deligiannis and his collaborator and co-director Yannis Michalopoulos used the corpus of the material that has been created in the Margaroni Residency at Onassis AiR (2022-2023). I/O supported the residency production-wise and connected the dots between the Margaroni and the Muziekgebouw research periods.
Artistic questions:
What kind of engaging experiences can we create for the audience in a dialogue with the very building?
How can we integrate the presence of the audience while reintroducing the building?
What shape can our ongoing research on rural and agricultural cultures take in such an urban venue?
Would that be a peripatetic immersive experience with sound as a guide throughout the many spaces?
How is that possible on practical and technical terms for such a venue?
We would like to thank the Muziekgebouw Production House team for their great engagement and support throughout the residency.
